It's her and him, at the local carnival, at the perfect time of night. She's there with him, the guy who, after many failed attempts by players, abusers, and unfaithful men, seems like he's on the up and up. Faithful, Godly, and Humble. They walk around, hands gripped gently tight together, as if holding onto a possibility of a future unknown. She, while guarding her heart because of past disasters, allows her heart to sink into his just a little, Meanwhile keeping her foundation in the I am, not her own plans.
They sit at the game table, and he tells her that he's gonna win her a teddy bear. Now, contrary to knowing the success rate of winning one half your height, he still tries. And after five dollars he ends up winning one. He, smiling as bright as the noonday, hands her the teddy, and she clinches gently tight. Her eyes light up as bright as the tilt-a-whirl lights. Her face, rubs against the soft cotton, and her muscles relax. For a moment, everything stops around her.
Tears fall, yet she clings even tighter, because she remembers her father who thought that cheating on his wife and leaving her would somehow make everything better for a little girl. She clings tighter, as memories of sexual abuse and pain that were once dancing in her brain are finally sent off and slain. She then clings tighter, because she knew that she could no longer cling to the past men that did her dirty, that smiled with wolf eyes, and, promised her truth, meanwhile leaving her to bath in their lies. She clings tighter, because she became more certain of the God that gave his son's life to save hers so she could cling to the I am. And now she clings even tighter, because she was reminded of the faithfulness of said God when she met him. This man, who, would cling closely to the same creator, as his goal was to be a real man, and not a carbon copy of tv shows, movies, and music videos. The real Real World. No animalistic traits, instead humble humanistic spiritual ways, living with his eyes straight. Straight to the prize to one day be the bride of a groom who wipes tears, sin, and death away.
A man that is the ace in the deck, no joker, faithful, strong, steadfast, like the teddy bear she now holds. See, you see a teddy bear, she sees a future, and as she takes the ring out of the ear of the teddy bear she is reminded of love. True love. While at times tough love, but love. The teddy bear reminds her that life ain’t easy, but it’s worth living. Because he’s worth living for. And this moment of living is just one of many blessings admist the suffering, both things provided by her Heavenly Father.
So as she clings gently tight, and as her prince looks in her eyes they both walk out of the carnival, they know that the past is just that, and the future is one to behold, teddy bear and all.
